  Scorecard

Sheldwich 2nd XI v Meopham 2nd XI
Saturday 12th July 2003

Meopham won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket which looked certain to assist the bowlers - dry and breaking up. Danny Bland and Ian Hulks took immediate advantage of balls that stopped and lifted, allowing the ring of close fielders to take a variety of catches, some good and some simply dollies. Skipper Stanford maintained the pressure bringing Tim George and Simon Brissenden into the attack, neither of whom gave anything away, Brissenden finishing with the impressive figures of 3 for 11. Sam Hill, returning for his first game of the season caught four catches ( in various parts of his anatomy ) and Marcus Hodges three. David Knight replaced the wicketless George, and snapped up the last two wickets to fall, leaving Meopham 92 all out in 30.5 overs.

Starting their reply before tea, Sheldwich lost Stanford early on, before Hodges with a fluent 31 and Shane Green finishing with 26 not out saw the side home to a comfortable victory by seven wickets. In short we bowled better than Meopham, we fielded more aggressively than Meopham, we caught every chance that was offered, and we were more positive with the bat. Next week we face Shipbourne at home, with no Greens available, but with the possibility of Darren Halls stepping down to reinforce the batting. Today's victory should leave us further up the table, certainly leapfrogging Meopham, who have now lost three games to our two.
